Between data and narrative.
I grew up in Brasília, the planned capital, all concrete and open sky. Born in Minas Gerais before that. Lived in São Paulo, Ceará, and Roraima at different points too. In 2014 IPC Global transferred me to the US. California first, then Massachusetts, then Georgia. My family and I have been in Johns Creek for a few years now and I still genuinely like it here.
I started coding at 8, on Basic and Cobol. Spent four years in Medical School before switching to Computer Science, which sounds like a detour but wasn't really. Biostatistics is what did it. One semester in and I knew that was where I wanted to go. I started my Master's at ITA, Instituto de Tecnologia Aeronáutica, one of Brazil's most selective engineering schools, roughly equivalent to MIT. Focused on artificial neural networks, back when that was still pretty niche. That was 22 years ago. I've been at IPC Global ever since. The work I'm most proud of is on the medical research side, data science applied to medicine. That's what got me into this in the first place.
I also played in bands in Brasília, with gigs and demos, though none of us were making a living from it. Rock mostly: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Still listen to all of them. I've also been writing fiction since I was 10. Gogol, Dostoyevsky, Kafka were the first writers that really got me. Five books out now. I'm honestly not sure the data work and the fiction are as different as they seem.
